The Screws of the pickups in this picture were Made black.
Similar to other blackened screws.
It does not work on Stainless steel, but has worked on most Metals I've tried.
I don't think I would use it on large items.
I mainly just used it on screws and slugs.
You end up with a matte color like blued gun metal.
If you have regular Pole Screws you can dip them in bottled Gun Bluing, I do it all the time, works great.

It says gun blue but it ends up black.
Works great on Nickle plated screws and also on brass screws.
I buy it at WalMart.

The active ingredient would appear to be selenium dioxide.
Is this a common chemical that can be obtained?

Dennis at Addiction-FX has the black hex ones. I got some as a sample the last time I ordered the regular ones and they don't look bad. I haven't tried them for how they sound but the others he has are not bad sounding.
