Interesting. Does it appear as if it's black plated? Shiny? Matte? Do you have any pics? If it's that easy, I've got several different parts I need to blacken and had planned on paying to have them plated.

    Thanks!

The Screws of the pickups in this picture were Made black.
      Similar to other blackened screws.
It does not work on Stainless steel, but has worked on most Metals I've tried.
I don't think I would use it on large items.
I mainly just used it on screws and slugs.
You end up with a matte color like blued gun metal.

      Thanks!

It says gun blue but it ends up black.
Works great on Nickle plated screws and also on brass screws.
          I buy it at WalMart.

Seems a bit expensive here in the UK though...

Actually I was just having a little bit of fun re that last Ebay ad - typo on the sellers part - if you judge by his previous Ebay sales for that gun blue, it should actually be £6.00(ish)

The active ingredient would appear to be selenium dioxide.
Is this a common chemical that can be obtained?

Dennis at Addiction-FX has the black hex ones. I got some as a sample the last time I ordered the regular ones and they don't look bad. I haven't tried them for how they sound but the others he has are not bad sounding.

                    You can also get them from McMaster-Carr for $5.87 for 100 pieces. That's $ 0.05 a screw instead of $.0.12. Part # 91290A123
