I haven't found a place to put it yet with this new layout. The site site is still there though, at ampix.org.

Google's Chrome is an EXCELLENT browser, as is Opera.

A good web standard tester is the Acid3 test: Acid3

Opera 10.53 scores 100/100 on it. Google Chrome scores 100/100. Safari scores 100/100.

At work I use WinXP/IE7 with no problems at all.

It's not the new software itself, but some setting in the browser of that particular computer that's not translated properly.

At home I use WinXP/IE8 in one computer and WinVista/IE8 in the other with no problems at all in neither.

Next question... How come some posts (like this one) use the full width of the screen, but others (like David's post #36 above) have lines that wrap prematurely? I'm typing this all on one long line so you can see what I mean.

Also while were obsessing over apostrophe`s and other typos . . . Do smileys count as punctuation marks

So I've discovered that stored images that people include in their posts don't display properly in Camino. I can see the thumbnail but when I click on it all I get is a black screen that's about 85% opacity. When I switch to Opera I can't see the thumbnails but the images now open in a separate tab. Neither is ideal.

The other thing I'd never noticed before is that Camino has been blocking all the adware all these years. All the banners come into view for me with Opera and they slow things down a bit too...

Speaking of browsers, when is Safari 5 supposed to be released? I just saw the first announcement for it yesterday.

I'm typing this message in it. It showed up via Software Update on the 8th. It's nice... much faster, even on this 10 year old G4.

It's a mystery. I tried a few experiments to see if I could make the early wrap happen, but so far I've failed.

It looks like it has something to do with the width of quote boxes above posts, but this test may well prove me wrong
Last edited by Dave Kerr; 06-11-2010, 07:08 PM. Reason: wondering why the quote box was full width here, unlike others upthread. Must be due to non-IE browsers' shortcomings

I'm not seeing a big white space in Safari or Firefox. You saw my screen capture. From doing web design I know that IE renders things poorly. Conversely, pages designed to work well in IE often don't work well in compliant browsers.

Here's another one. No big space.

I don't know why this one wrapped so short. I quoted it to see what happens in the quote.

Interestingly, it looks like it might be wrapping longer now?

Yeah, that's the one I used to test, too.

Chrome and Safari both use the WebKit engine, so that makes sense.

Yeah, that would do it. I'd love to try Chrome, but they don't have a PPC version, just Intel.

Have to wait until I get a New Mac.
