  • Specs for fat 50's and or Texas specials

Just wondering if anyone has rewound or worked on any of these 2 sets. I have a friend with 2 strats and wants a set like each of those. I lost all my notes on different pickup specs. Thanks for any help.

Don't need specs anymore but I found these were great for a Fat 50's look while jogging.

That's not exactly jogging... more like oozing...
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I've had fat 50s, didn't like em so I stripped them and just rewound them to 6k, 5.8 would be even better IMO, use HF wire, 100/150 tpl will do, they sounded better than the Fenders. The Fat 50s were originally 6k neck, 6.2 mid and 6.3 br. Wind them all 5.8 and your friend will love you, I won't say how many turns because wire varies quite a bit although I have specs which say in the year 1954::: 7956 turns of .0030'' wire for 5.76K. Good luck.

Thanks Ward. So 100 to 150 TPL. Sounds like a good place to start. I swear I remember the ones I had here and checked were 75 to 80 or there abouts on the bridge and 95 to 100 neck and middle. But yeah I seem to remember they were not all that great. Kinda lifeless. How bout tension? I'm thinking medium, if i remember they were a bit spongy in the middle.

Yeah I'd go medium. Sounds like 100TPL would be the way to go mate.
