  • Removing wire from bobbins

When doing rewinds, what are some preferred methods of removing the existing wire from the bobbin. Assuming it is removeable i.e. wax potted or no potting at all. Any different methods between strat/tele or humbucker bobbins?

well when a pickup is potted or not potted i use a very pointy pair of small scissors but it cuts the wire a little easier when its not potted either way it works & i also use a hobby knife

I use a sharp 1/8" chisel, a pair of angled surgeon's scissors, and and various X-acto knives, depending on the bobbin.

Exacto knife, cut it vertically on the ends. The pickup type doesn't matter.

If it is a vintage pickup, I usually unwind it to get tpl and number of turns.
