Sources for Tele bobbin string?

Any suggestions? I'm particularly interested in finding it in black.

I don't know too much about tele pickup specs but did a quick search and found a possible source of cotton string. It looks like they have string of various thicknesses.

I was thinking maybe buying black dye at a fabric store and dipping the string in it to change color.

Thanks Kevin. I've tried the dying thing but it always seems to turn out a verrrry dark purple. Just can't seem to get it black enough...maybe a better quality of dye will work. I'm currently using the string that comes with the Stew-Mac kits. I just don't care for the white.

Funny thing string.

I remember once Don Mare having to turn away thousands of customers who were all gagging to have their Duncan Antiquities converted to his Roy Wrap spec all because he couldn't find string.
Being the big-hearted guy that I am, I sent him a ball of appropriate string which is just plain and simple string for tying parcels. I was his new God until I dared to say something out of place on his forum. Wonder what he's doing for string now?

As regards dying it black, I found the best method is to immerse it in a pot of ink jet refill ink. Let it drip dry. It's not purple or anything but looks a sort of charcoal color until you wax pot. Then it looks really black.

It's a simple process that works. Anything more complicated is just plain stupid.

Dip cotton string in india ink, allow to dry. India ink isn't expensive, and is available in large bottles from art stores. And india ink is as black as it gets, and the black will never fade.

Not black dye. Why not just do what Fender did. Add black shoe polish. Next time you see a real old Tele pickup you might notice that the string is white but potted with black wax. As a result, the string looks black in places and a bit grey in others.
