He may have mounted the humbucker bobbin with its top against the face plate of the winder, which would have made that a ccw wind.

buckers, and P-90s wind CCW, and most Fender stuff was CW.
Then you have the RWRP stuff that throws a curve in there.
I do some Vintage repairs. I always try to put things back just like they were original.
The P-Bass pickups I just did, had one Coil RWRP(CCW North Up), and One Regular(CW South up). They could have made them all one way and done the same thing with wiring. I don't know why Fender went to all that trouble, but they did.

Pretty soon everyone and their mother will be making vintage accurate pickups. Then there will be less choices, and there goes the market. It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

I said that earlier.
You can do it however.
I try to conform a bit.
Peace,
Rock On!

P.S. Did Leo wear Plaid Pants, I'll have to come up with some!"If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favourable reference of the Devil in the House of Commons." Winston Churchill

I do follow the DiMarzio/EMG HZ wiring color code though. That makes things easy for people.
I have never seen Leo in plaid pants, but then I never had the pleasure of meeting the man. Thats what I like about the old Passive 50's Pickups & Technology! You can get out the soldering Iron and work on it.
