  • Question about pole pieces

I did a search, but wasn't able to find what I needed in the first few pages of results.

I used to wind my own pickups using parts from Stewmac and GuitarpartsUSA, but haven't done it in a while.

My question is that the screw pole pieces on a humbucker are some sort of steel, right? Could you just go to the hardware store and get steel screws and magnetize them using neodynium magnets, and use that as the pole pieces, and not use the alnico bars?

It seems that the magnetic field produced by the crews and polepieces in a HB would be about the same as a megnetized piece of steel... Can anyone tell me if I'm way off or not? Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum
You will have to use a permanent magnet ,Steel or Iron which is the magnetic ingredient .Wont hold its charge for a long period of time
