  • Resolve my Murky tone

I have wound a few single coils & have got some good tone from them , i have been quite pleased , but lately the bridge pickups that i have wound anywhere from 6.8k to 7.5k are sounding a little murky at times .It seems more noticeable when you play up the neck
i have tried a couple different wire ,PE & HF .Formvar being more noticeable
I hope it is the right term "murky" IMO it sounds like a wah in one fixed position
    THANKS AHEAD OF TIME .......

    Hi Will

Try winding with a neater tighter pattern with more tpl´s . I did some tests and found that the more scattered the winding pattern the lower inductance for the same amount of winds and I assume from that that the resonance point of the pickup should be higher. (I´m no electronics genius so maybe one of our more technically savvy members can correct me if i´m wrong) I think if you do a neater more tpl wind you end up with a fatter tone. I´m not sure if your complaining of a kind of hollow mid tone or a more muddy tone

    Cheers

Thanks i guess its back to the old drawing board but i will give that a try , i always give the bridge pup more scatter to prevent it from sounding thin . I guess its too much
