So I installed my first set of humbuckers and they sound great, only problem is in the middle position they are out of phase/lose most of their volume. I wired them as 2 conductor. I know this is an amateur question, but do the magnet polarities go in the same or opposite directions? If I wire them in 4 conductor would i be able to simply switch the wires to reverse the polarity? thanks in advance

Magnet poles from the slug of the bridge pickup usually north should face the the slug side of the neck pickup which is also north ,most companies go screw side south which is the same .... it will be in phaseLast edited by copperheadroads; 11-09-2010, 02:44 AM."UP here in the Canada we shoot things we don't understand"

That they are probably 4 wire and you are wiring them in the humbucker mode.
Can't give you much info, until we know what brand they are? So we can know what color code you have.
If you built these yourself and they are 2 wire, all you need to do is turn one magnet around in either pickup to make the polarity the same in each pickup.
Tomorrow give more info so someone can help you figure it out!
Good Luck,

i was asuming they were a set not pickups from 2 different venders
if its a traditional paf style put the south pole of the magnet to the screw side in all pickups in the neck or bridge

Just loosen the baseplate screws and slide the magnet out and turn it around 180° or flip it over. That will put them back in phase.
That's why I never use 2 conductor wiring. You never know what pickup is going to be used with yours. You want people to have an easy way to reverse the polarity. It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

If the pickup has been waxed, sometimes its hard to get the magnets out.
