Has anyone used .78" rods on a strat pickup (all the same)? Just wondering what effect a longer rod would have on the tone.

Generally the .781 magnets are used for Jazz bass pickups.
They use the thicker .093 flatwork top and bottom.
If you use those for strat flatwork, I don't think the covers will fit well, and you may need longer adjustment screws.
I use the .688 and .719 length magnets on Strat pickups, and still can get at least 1/2 inch between the flatwork.
    Good Luck,

I have made taller strat bobbins & using longer magnets but not so long as .78 .
i would of tried it if i had them that long , you get more of a tele bridge pickup sound with a taller bobbin

I think a tall bobbin would have the opposite effect of say a jazzmaster pickup which is short and wide. More clarity and punch. I think I'll try a set and report back.

Yes. Compare P bass and J bass pickups for another example.

David, would you happen to know the standard rod lengths for P and J bass pickups? I didn't realize they were different!

The P is very squat. The magnets are .531" tall and Jazz pickups are .781".

Has anyone here ever made a little taller P-Bass pickup.
I wonder how it would sound.
However a properly wound P-Bass P/U Sounds pretty good.
