    Great thread:
Where I sit - I am a newbie and have made PUPs from the Stewmac kits but I also build guitars and I want to start experimenting in different form factors in PUP design as I can make my guitars any way I want. They are for me, not for sale.
    My questions are as follows:
Can I use Micarta (G10) for the flatwork?
Has anyone used Micarta and what were the results?
What materials are good for baseplates? Do they need to be non-magnetic sensitive? Brass-yes, aluminum-no, etc...
    Thank you much...

I use Formica (or equivalent) for a lot of bobbin flanges. It's thin, stiff, non conductive, easy to cut, etc., etc., etc. Laser-cut it should be better than Forbon or vulcanized fiber products. I just saw it and drill it. Nice colors, too!

The "thinner" aspect means that you could get the upper windings just a tiny bit closer to the strings than with more normal construction.

Great!!! I was just about to order some anyway and give it a try. Funny how one of my other hobbies (knifemaking) led me to think of Micarta for the flatwork. And yes, some very cool colors w/o having to paint...Thanks again.
