  • Newbie with possible parts sources

Hey guys, I have wound a few pickup in the recent past and I am working on my own line of pickups. I deal In Japan a lot and I am also working with suppliers in China. I am working on receiving samples from a few manufacturers and would like to work with a few guys wo get us a steady stream of parts. If this is too much of a SPAM let me know and I will edit my post.

I am currently working on a new machine with the motor from an electrolux beater attachment! It is quite powerfull.

Thanks for the nice welcome! I specialize in Gotoh parts mainly right now. I need parts for Firebird mini hums really bad and I know they are tough to get. If there is something your looking for or need a steady source of please let me know.

Oh and welcome, sorry, meant to post that before.

Baseplates, P90 bobbins, slugs, pole pieces of good quality, magnets. You name it we could use a good source for it, especially the P90 bobbins.

I've gotten a lot of requests for Firebird mini's too but can't make them because I don't have the no-hole mini covers, which is all you need. Last I checked, you can get everything else from Allparts.

Let us know if you ever source the no-hole mini covers, especially in gold.

                interested....

Zam of course a bunch of us are interested, how do you plan on doing this? Manufacturers over there won't sell you except at minimum orders, a simple bucker baseplate will put you out at least $600 for a bare minimum, plus shipping costs which are very expensive. Gotoh won't sell small wholesale orders, one luthier I know buys through them and their minimum order is $3000 or more, can you handle that? He buys in a group of other luthiers once a year. Most of the members here are hobbyist level with a few who do sell more, but there isn't alot of big buying power here so you'd be dealing with alot of real small orders. If you're for real then lets hear what parts you can get and pricing, I'm interested...

I already deal in high volume in Gotoh parts. Gotoh pickups will not sell parts seperately. I have the funds to carry a decent inventory. I am pretty familiar with doing small orders, so that won't be a problem, I have never set minimum quantities or prices for any of my items and don't plan on it. If my suppliers produce a quality product I know you guys will like I would love to add it to my catalog. My goal is to be on par with Allparts and Stewmac in size. Most of my Gotoh prices beat stew mac, I try to sell the highest quality parts at the best prices possible.

A reliable source of good parts would be nice. I've been trying to convince a friend that has an Internet guitar parts business to add pickup parts, but I'm not holding my breath on that. If you can deliver, I'm in.

I also deal with Gotoh via their subsidiary Hosco and though the minimum is high (about $1800) the service is excellent and the potential savings is pretty good. Air freight and duty seems to add about 10% which isn't bad at all. Hosco has a number of pickup shells in their catalog. I've only gotten Jazz bass shells with no holes but they were $.66 ea. I can't remember what they have for guitar other than strat shells. It's the high end tuners that you really save on.

                        OK lets go....

Hey I'm ready to order. How are you going to proceed? Is there a catalog of stuff to choose from? Do you want a list of the most common stuff we buy. There is a real need for new blood in this market and better quality parts than we're getting. What kind of humbucker parts can you get, what is the quality like compared to StewMac, AllParts, Guitar Jones? I"ve heard their stuff is real good but never seen any pickup parts. There is also a real need for someone who actually knows WHAT they are selling, AllParts sells pickup covers claiming they are nickel silver and you cut into them and they are cheap brass, they don't know their own inventory. I'm real tired of that. All of them are real bad about ordering far enough ahead to keep parts in stock and they all run out of stuff at the same time which makes me wonder if most of it is coming from the same place. So get me a price list and detailed parts list, I'm ready....

                          Please Please Please

Can you get good P90 stuff, bobbins etc.... I like a dumb ass ordered a few from all parts 3 weeks ago just to see if they had improved and what do you know, not one dam bit. The plastic molding slag is not there anymore but the friggin screw holes are still too dam small for the screws. They sell bobbins that their own pole piece screws wont fit, HA what a joke!! SO if I want to use them at all I need to go to my local machine shop and have them drill every one of them on a good drill press so they will thread straight. I for one am sick of this shit!!!!

                          I'm in, lets do this..........................

Quantities? No one is going to touch this P-90 bobbin fest without a 1000 pc minimum order at 2-$3 each. The existing tooling is the problem and until someone takes it upon themselves to measure the damn bobbin and make an accurate dxf file idea this isn't going anywhere. Am I wrong about this?
