  • DiMarzio Model P rewind

Does anyone know the wire guage and turn count for the timeless Model P ? (Mine's a cream "PAF", but I'm pretty sure the specs never changed).

    Thanks,

    I'm pretty sure it's 43AWG wire. I don't know how many turns.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Silly, speculative question: How do you think it would sound if rewound with 10,000 turns of 42AWG? 9500 turns? 9000 turns?

      Thanks,

10,000 turns of 42 wound give you a traditional P bass pickup, but with steel poles and ceramic magnets. Might sound pretty good.

[EDIT] I just went to DiMarzio's site, and they list the Model P as 11.54K. Seymour Duncan list the SPB-1 as 11.6K. So I think it's safe to assume that the Model P uses 42 gauge wire. I thought they had it wound hotter, but it's just the ceramic magnet making it sound that way.
