Very nice video! Your potting scares me though, I used to do the double boiler method like you but somehow it flashed and caught fire, second degree burns on a few of my fingers...wasn't fun at all! I know you know what you're doing but Murphy can strike anyone!

What I do for potting is to use a paraffin warmer thats intended for people to stick their hands in. They are not expensive, come with wax, and can safely be left on 24 hours a day, not that I see a need for that. Once the wax has melted it regulates the temperature. I got mine from Amazon for about $30.

Nice video. Two things, there's no need to check your DC resistance while you are winding. Just wind to the same number of turns for that pickup each time and you are good to go.

And why is your wax so brown?

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Probably for the Van Halen brown sound. Do we have to explain EVERYTHING to you David?

        (alternate brown substance joke omitted)

          Thanks guys.

The wax is brown because it is not filtered though it is clean with no particles. There is a slight honey aroma that wofts about while it melts.
I did the DC check just to be sure I had no breaks and to show viewers.
I will look into the warmer as well.

Years ago I had to go through physical therapy and that was part of it, the "paraffin treatment". It was paraffin in one of those warmers with some sort of mint oil mixed in. You would dip you hands in, let them warm, remove, then peel away the wax.

It's paraffin and paraffin oil, a.k.a. liquid paraffin, or mineral oil. It works great, and the paraffin oil takes the place of bee's wax.
