Exactly! And sometimes telling the customer what you are doing is trouble.. it's the knowing a little info thing. Then they start wanting to try this and that because they read it somewhere.

I don't even tell people what's in my pickups... They sounds like this, and there you go. The most anyone got out of me is I use ceramic magnets. Its not a big secret.. anyone can get a VOM and take some readings, but telling someone I use this gauge and these magnets, etc. wont tell them anything at all useful. It's all the fault of these websites posting DC resistance and inductance and stuff. The geek in me loves reading that, but in the end I like the pickup or I don't.

I think it's neat that Possum can make a bunch of different pickups and they all have their own personality. And that's all someone needs to know... he doesn't tell too much.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

Yeah all good , but if you are using the vintage correct angle as your sales pitch ( some do and nothing wrong with it )you should at least be ballpark with regards to some things I would think ,correct wire type would be one I could think of , fibre bobbins would be another.. i don't think it would be fair to state it then actually use something else other than what type was used way back when ...

I agree.. When I get things going again, if ever,, I plan to re-do my site kinda like DS said, just explain the tone, not add any hype and try to stay away from words like vintage, types of wire etc... I may say sounds like this or that etc.. but not try to portray it like it is a replica of Such and such pickup. I may lose out but oh well, i'm tired of playing that game. I want people to like my stuff because they like the tone the way it is, not because it is like blah blah blah....
