...I made a single coil bobbin with two rows of adjustable screw poles, one row magnetized north and the other south?

Why the two rows of screws with a single coil? What is exactly what you're to accomplish here?

I'm having a hard time picturing what you wanna do... can you design it for me?

        Not much.

It sounds similar to what I used to see inside some old Univox guitars. The pickup from the exterior looked like a mini humbucker with 2 rows of adjustable poles. When you opened it up there was only one coil in the center and two banks of magnets (can't recall of they were opposing polarities) running along each side of the coil.

Attached is the design. The bobbin would hold two rows of screws with a hum bucker magnet running in between. North on one side and south on the other.Click image for larger version

So, in other words, no one here can answer such as simple question? That's what I thought. My suspicions have been confirmed.

                    Well think about it.
If the same coil is sensing both north and south on the same coil?
Would that not cancel itself out?
I Think That is what everyone is Silently Saying!
It's nothing like doing that with 2 coils.
If your still not satisfied, build it, and post the results here.
I for one, would like to hear your results.

Terry, thank you. I'm still not satisfied. There's the issue of varying gauss for north and south. There is also the separation between the rows poles and the fact that one row will sense string vibration before the other.

So some very high order harmonic will not mostly cancel. Sort of like when you connect the two coils of a humbucker in the wrong phase, but even more extreme.

The field strengths of the two rows will not vary much.

That's an interesting thing to try
would distance between the north & south poles ,Work the same if there was one very wide pole piece .like a wide blade pickup ,But with less iron mass

Exactly what happened for me, actually. I didn't intentionally try this, but I've had broken pickups where this effectively happens. It sounds very weak and has an "out of phase" sort of quality.

It is sort of like putting your car in drive and reverse at the same time and hoping it'll go up....

I dont recall ever seeing that exact scenario but I suspect it would sound very out of phase. I have seen old pickups that had six poles like a standard single coil with one coil wound around all 6 poles that used a horse shoe magnet underneath so the top three poles were south and the bottom three poles were north or visa versa, problem with that was you get an out of phase sound if you bend the G string and you get a slightly out of phase sound on the G and D when not bending strings.
