Note that it runs on 220 VAC, so you will also need a 1000-watt step-up transformer, or to have an electrician install a 220 volt outlet, if you live outside the 220-volt world. (The powerline frequency difference, 50 Hz to 60 Hz, most likely won't make any difference.)

That aside, this should cause heartburn in US coilwinder makers.

I'm thinking that this would be a pretty sweet rig for the money. I'm not looking to do production runs, just rewind the occasional dead Kay or Fender pup. anybody got any comments? I really dig the "Ming the Merciless" styling as well.

That is funny that you brought this thread back up. I would recommend NOT buying it. I ordered it to add to my collection of winders... because I thought the same thing, it looks as though it might have wound a nice-sounding coil just looking at the quarky design.

Well it came yesterday and I'm not pleased with it at all. It is basically a piece of junk. The wire guiding mechanism gets stuck on one side and jams during winding. It also is not set up to wind narrow bobbons. It just didn't work properly. There also were broken parts. Then you had to come up with the tooling. The expereience has been a real hassle and expense.

If you're looking for something in that price range, I would recommend the shatten winder because it's basically ready to go right out of the box. Or build the type like Jasons, or build one from a lathe like Mystics. There is another person, i can't remember, who made a nice winder from a lathe too.

This machine (design) has great potentional if the parts were machined better, and careful attention to the details were given-- especially to the wire guide mechanism.

However, if you're the type of person that likes to tinker, it might be good for you. But if you want to start winding right away with minimum setup time and cost...DON'T BUY IT.
