It happens to me using either Safari, Firefox or Chrome. It's not the browser.

You can get Safari for Windows too by the way.

This was his birthday (Friday 8-17) and mine the following Monday.
      Cool! Happy belated birthday!

        About time you chimed in!

Don't be shy, people spam this forum with warez all the time. Your meter rocks dude.

Thanks for the info Greg, I have ordered the standard meter. I assume if you do peg the meter it's just off scale with no harm to the meter/sensor? Thanks again.

Thanks David, I hit the big 5-3.

I like to kidd-on about the vintage wife thing because she once bought me a t-shirt that says "Many Vintage Guitars - One Wife" (which I don't wear, but never mind) and when she presented it to me I jokingly said "hey they mis-printed it, I'm sure it is supposed to say 'one vintage wife' right?"

There is no harm done to the meter if it hits or exceeds the top of its range. Once it exceeds 1700, it simply displays "OVER" to let you know the field is too strong for it to measure.

The greater the flux density, the more voltage will be induced in a wire moving within the field, which is relevant to pickup design. Oersteds are typically used to express magnetizing strength within a solenoid carrying current. In a vacuum, 1 Gauss is equal to 1 Oersted. In other media, like ferrous metal, Oersteds must be multiplied by the permeability factor of the medium to get the value in Gauss. Air has a permeability that is extremely close to that of a vacuum, so in the vicinity of a pickup magnet (air), the value of Gauss and Oersteds would be virtually equal.

As far as which meter you need, as FieldWrangler mentions in post #27 of this thread, you can use a spacer to get the meter probe further away from the magnet to do your measurements, as long as you are only interested in comparing a number of magnets all measured at that same distance. The strength (flux density) of a small magnet drops off rapidly as you move away from the pole. A meter that is limited to 1700 Gauss would peg when placed right against even a small neodymium magnet, but would not peg if moved even 1/8" away. If you are trying to reproduce a set of magnets from one pickup (original) to another (copy), they have to be measured at the same distance to get a valid comparison.

Geeze you are a mere kid! I'm hitting the big double 5 this year.

I had a recent issue wife, who is now a junior ex-wife lol (I'm 19 years older than she is)
