  • P90 neck dogear baseplate?

Does anyone know where I can get P90 dogear base plates that will fit the lower height dogear cover for a neck pickup?

If not, is my best option to modify a standard dogear base plate by bending the dogears on the base plate up to reach the cover? (Any suggestions on the best method to modify it?)

    Thanks

Can't see any spec's but these are similar to most I have seen Mojo Pickup Parts » Mojotone P-90 Baseplate Nickel Silver Dogear 50mm (1.97'')
& I guess you want lower height ,you need longer legs on the baseplate
the legs on these are quite short @ about 5/32"

Exactly Copperhead. I'm needing longer legs on the baseplate. If I use a standard baseplate and pickup cover, the pickup is almost hitting the strings with the neck pickup. (guitars a hollowbody) Funny thing is, I was able to get a low profile black dogear cover from allparts but it wont work with the standard baseplate. (I'm surprised they sell these with no baseplates to match.)

          What kind on hollowbody ?
If it's a Epi they have very different spacing & a strange height that needs some modding to make it work
rewinding the pups are the easiest way

you can bend them but it takes practice- you get one shot at it and no fussing around or the legs will crack. You can also make new legs that bend around underneath and solder them on. You have to make your own bobbins though because the short covers have a narrower pole spacing.

When did Gibson do a narrower pole spacing for neck P-90's? Vintage soap bar P-90's are the same spacing for neck and bridge. Vintage soap bar baseplates are dog ear baseplates with the ears trimmed and hand drilled for the rubber grommet.
They don't make them like they used to... We do.

I don't think the brand of guitar was even mentioned

                  Sorry guys,
                  Its a Epiphone Elitist Casino.

It has Epiphone USA P90s made by Gibson so it has standard pole spacing unlike the Korean/Chinese made ones.

The way I have seen it done on vintage Gibson neck dog ear baseplates is they took a standard bridge dogear baseplate and cut a slot from the edge of the tab to the mounting screw hole. So the sequence might be cut the slot to the hole, bend the tab vertically, bend the very top of the slotted tab horizontally, done. The very end of the tab that is now slotted is the new mounting screw surface.

Some of the offshore Epi's with dogears have something like a 48mm spacing in the neck & a 50 mm in the bridge

Thats the big problem with alot of Epiphones, the neck at the nut is narrower than vintage Gibsons were. Gibson never had narrow spaced P90's, but they did with PAF's on certain guitars. Best you can do with these Epiphones is use the parts from the stock neck pickup it came with and hope for the best. I would replace as many of the parts as you can though, make your own....

the short replacement covers availible have a narrower spacing than standard, same spacing as import epi casinos- the expensive lennon reissue casinos have standard gibson spacing neck pickups
"So the sequence might be cut the slot to the hole, bend the tab vertically, bend the very top of the slotted tab horizontally, done. The very end of the tab that is now slotted is the new mounting screw surface."
thats how its done but if you try to bend it too many times the metal will fatigue
