  • Sams Winder

Hello to everyone on this Forum and many thanks for all the informative postings here.
After playing the guitar for quite a few years I decided to try my hand at pickup winding.
In the attached photo the main parts are, an old defunct sewing machine, some wooden coasters, cheap fishing reel with onboard traverser to which I attached a small tube from a WD40 can to bring the wire close to the pickup, vacuum cleaner belt, calculator/counter setup.
On the first wind the reel traverser gave me a cross-hatch pattern on the pickup. To cure that I will take of the drive belt and re-attach the fishing reel hand-winder.
    Learning as I go,
    All the best.

Cool. I had the fishing reel idea buzzing in my head when I built my winder. Didn't pursue it though. Pretty soon, you'll be reeling in the good tone.

        Pretty cool idea.

Only thing i would ask is what are you tensioning with? The wind looks loose to me but maybe its just the picture.... Anyhoo, great job, lots of noodle power going on there

          Thanks for the reply madialex.
This was only a test run, as for tensioning i use two felt pads on brackets below the reel, yes they still need some adjustment. I left them slightly loose as i wanted to see the winding pattern and how well the Cal/counter performed.
