  • Anyone here "Disabled" ???

Just wondering if anyone here is by any definition "Disabled"

I have Type 1 Neurofibromatosis, Hydrocephalus, and IBS. It's a lot of chronic pain and discomfort to deal with. I'm hoping pickup winding works out for me because most "work" is not "doable" since it's a crap-shoot waking up every day. Some days I cant do much at all and others I'm on top of the world.

Thanks man, I'm doing alright for the time being.

I'm surprised no one has come out and said anything, though.

Without wishing to pry too much, do you have a shunt? (for the hydrocephalus)

Not truly disabled, but I do go through like with virtually daily migraine. Overtime it gets worse and worse. Luckily I can vary my job because I have days where I cant do squat. Pickup winding might work out very well for you.

Yeah, I had one put in a few years back. It's worked out pretty good; I can sit/stand up without my head exploding and puking my brains out. I still get headaches or nausea sometimes, and cant do stuff that shakes the brain around like running/jogging; but overall the surgery was worth it.

You should check out MyChronicMigraine.com | Get the facts about Chronic Migraine Maybe they have new medications or treatments you can try out. If you arent seeing a Neurologist about it, you should.

I asked because I had a student years back who also had one installed. Couldn't tell at all. Completely reversed any and all biased and antiquated notions I had about hydrocephalus. Cripes, years ago it would have been a VIP pass to institutionalization. Lift and clink your glasses to modern medicine.

All of which leads me to ask another question, though more generally directed: Do any folks here set gauge limits on themselves with respect to what they are comfortable winding with? For example, do folks with any sort or origin of manual jitter decide they're simply not going smaller than #41 or 42 because of the risk of breakage?

I feel for you. My migraines come and go. I had 4 last summer and one in January. I get the whole works though, aura, aphasia and numbness along with the pain.

                    Oh that stinks :< Sorry

I'm lucky in that I dont get the Aphasia or an Aura, but im also unlucky in that I dont get an aura so the headaches sneak up on me. Maxalt works wonders for me. I will say I dont hand wind at all because just watching that thin wire in bright light sets me off :/

You may want to look into getting some glasses. A lot of people get bad headaches just from straining their eyes looking at small things up-close for too long....like reading.

I'll have to check Maxalt out. I've heard if you get the aura you have a greater chance of stroke, so a small ray of sunshine for you. As for glasses I caved this summer and got some reading glasses. Works wonders, now I can see what I'm doing.

I used to get migraines every day since I was a kid. Not so much anymore.

I'm legally blind in one eye and impaired in the other due to keratoconous. I just try to do the best I can every day since every day my vision is different. I also have severe dry eye, which limits the treatment options quite a bit. The only possible treatment for me will be when they get stem cell stuff going.
