QC at fender cannot be a very demanding job

There was probably no fraying wire until he took the covers off. I repair a lot of those where people have shafted them just taking the covers off.

Maybe not, but man, have a look at those loose windings!

Quite right. It's not good enough. The strange thing is why don't Fender address this issue. All they have to do is tension up better or at least wrap the top coil in ribbon like the bottom one is.

In one photo it looks like the bottom coil has cloth tape around the coil. If someone removed the tape from the top coil, you would probably get some of that loose wire happening.

I have to question if this guy removed the tape. After all, he did remove the cover. Why? To look inside? Well then you have to remove the tape...

But honestly, Fender doesn't make high quality stuff anymore.
It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure. — Albert Einstein

That's what I was saying Dave. The bottom coil has Gibson style ribbon on it. However, Fender do not wrap the top coil at all. That's why they are so easily knackered when people take the covers off.
