Cast or sintered magnets for single coils?

Are sintered magnets prefered for single coils, or is it possible to substitute cast rods? I ask because I've come across a stocked size in cast Alnico that suits me a little better. I'm assuming the short lengths are cut from a long casting so the ends would look ok?!

I don't use much alnico, but I recall from discussions here that people prefer cast over sintered.

Sintered magnets for some reason will make a pickup sound shite.

Very interesting, thanks Spence. I saw the magnetic properties were slightly different between the two. Is it anything specific, or just shite?

Sintered magnets are made in a very different way to cast. They just don't have a good effect on tone. They are widely used in other applications because of the ease of which they can be made into different shapes.
