  • 50s and 60s wire

I've been reading various sources and they differ in what they state regarding the wire used at this time. For example, one source states that Fender used formvar during the real Fender years, another that PE and ST was used (was ST ever used?), others heavy formvar.

It is generally recognised on this forum that heavy formvar was used, but is this true for all Fender pickups of the time. Those who have worked on those old pickups or have looked at them can you share your observations.

Also, regarding PE. Was it made with oleoresinous enamel back then?

119 views and the silence persists...I would have thought there would be more interest in the wire insulation composition of the period.

Possibly even discuss some of the inconsistent sources of information.

Ok, I found some info on insulation via a search. A good thread, but really not much info there. It would be interesting to note the actual properties of insulation.
