  • On a Fender style pickup, do beveled magnets sound different from sharp edged ones?

A question for y'all to ponder.
SHarp edges magnets will have those spikes in Gauss levels concentrated right at the edges.
Heavily beveled magnets are going to have a different field shape, presumably mellower field strength around the edges.
Can someone here ascribe/ describe the differences in tone or output as a result?
    Thanks!

I just barely bevel the magnets.
I don't like sharp edges, and it makes them easier to install.

I don't hear any diff, but then again I only take the very edge off - like Terry stated above.

      YMMV......

I agree, if there is a difference I cannot hear it. I also had a customer who insisted that Philips head screws sound better in humbuckers.

Along the same lines, how about old Jazzmaster pickups with the bevels on the bottom? Or old Jazzmaster and misc other Fenders that had magnets protruding on the bottom side?

I thought Leo only beveled his magnets so he could insert them through the Forbon easier... but what do I know?
