ID older Strat single coil ...

howdy friends,

Found this guy in parts drawer. i couldn't find any markings. PUP reads around 14k, bobbin surrounded by tape. sounds really nice. I figure it's from 70s.

i spent wayy too long looking at pics of dimarzio, shecter, and mighty mite single coils ... no-thing looks remotely like this.
forgot to mention pup is no taller than your ordinary strat pup.
guess it doesn't matter too much was just curious.

Can you tell us more about the pickup?
Does it have Alnico rod magnets?
Or, maybe it has steel slugs with ceramic magnet on the bottom.
It is apparently made to not fit in a cover.
Does it have a brass bottom flatwork, or baseplate too?
Trying to understand the design of the pickup?
I would guess it to have Japanese origin!

its definitely not schecter I am pretty certain, as I am pretty up to date with most things old schecter

as for Japanese.... I doubt it too.....I am a vintage Japanese guitar nut (70's/80's), and have never seen anything like this pickup on a JV guitar

as I said before... I think I may have seen this pup before in an old magazine ad from the 70/80's

Is it the brass the actual bobbin top, or is it just a bobbin topper?

Mighty Mite bought the 70's crap from a winder named Sergio. He did use some alternate materials. His stuff always has bondable coil wire. Meaning, the winding wire is impregnated with a self bonding material. The coils on his stuff are usually totally solid.

That's not a bad way to ground magnets but there doesn't seem to be a ground wire. When I see brass I think Mannmade.

If you were using the brass for a ground, IMO it would be best served on the bottom not the top.
If on the bottom, You could easily solder it to the start lead.
Also if you used the brass on the bottom and a standard top forbon, it would all fit in a strat cover.
Granted in this case, that was not an option.
