  • nickel silver or brass

    hello everybody,
maybe a stupid question but just for a reason: got pickup covers several times sold by the seller as nickel silver that appeared to me
like being made of brass. grinding down the bottom of the covers it shows the well known yellowish-golden color of brass instead of the silvery
look I'd expect if it was nickel silver. are there different kinds of nickel silver, some looking like brass, or are there suppliers who don't take it too
serious telling you it's nickel silver when it actually is brass? I can't believe it!

If it's yellowish, it's probably brass. I've understand that nickel silver can look yellowish, but I have not seen a nickel silver cover that actually was yellowish.

With Sand paper, sand through the plating (on the inside of coarse) ,Usually you will see a flash coat of copper then if you keep sanding it will be nickel or brass .? grey or yellow .

        hi john,
thanks for your reply. sounds like there may be a variety of nickel silver that looks like brass.

          hi copperheadroads,
thanks for the reply. that's what I did. I have covers made by schaller that don't look yellow at all, and of course I've seen raw nickel-silver covers, no trace of yellow!
