I am considering rewinding a Duncan quarter pound Tele bridge pickup. The resistance of this thing is a little over 17K. I want to rewind it with 42 gauge wire to a aprox. 7.5K . I am wondering about the larger magnets and how that will effect things. It will make the coil fatter than it would be with the smaller magnets and throw the turns count off.
I have pretty much decided to just wind to resistance and let the turns count fall where it may. My reason for doing this is that the stock pickup is just too dark sounding. I was infatuated with a certain growl you can get out of it but for a standard Tele type sound it just isn't bright enough.
I would be interested in hearing any thoughts on this.
