  • Need Gold Fillisters & Covers

As a small time winder (just for myself) supplies have been hard to come by...

Anyone got 12 gold fillisters and 2 50mm gold silver-nickel covers I can buy?

    Thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
    Dave

StewMac doesn't have gold fililsters and I think their covers are brass.

Allparts canceled my order because they were out of one or both items (they didn't specify).

AllParts never has anything anymore and they don't tell you when you place your order. You only find out when you get your package and half of it is "backordered". After that you have lost a week waiting for it and then you are left running around trying to scrounge only to find out that everybody else is out as well because they all order from AllParts. !!!!

          OK...I'm done now...sorry

You've described my experience exactly....except I lost 2 weeks waiting for my order.

WD Music should have the gold covers and maybe the screws. The covers aren't bad, though they are very deep and a bit of a pain to solder compared to a more shallow cover.

I think Torres might have the plated screws too - don't know about the quality.

Andrew C. has really nice gold covers, and the screws are also very nice looking. The heads are a bit smaller diameter than I'd like but they fit the covers well.

Also, GJ has gold (maybe not at this moment) covers and screws. The screws are metric thread.

I forgot about WD. They do indeed have gold fillisters and I found some AllParts covers so I'm set. Thanks!

True, they don't have gold screws but the covers are gold not brass. They clearly state they are gold :

Kind of flogging a dead horse here since I found my parts but...

They are gold plated. But the base material is brass, not nickel silver (or so says our friend Possum.) But I appreciate the help anyway. Thanks, Spence.

                        Guitar USA

Yes their covers are brass, but they are thin brass, so they're not nearly as dulling as some others. I did an LCR measurement comparison last nite out of curiosity, here's what I got:
                        humbucker no cover 14.15K ohms/AC
                        nickel silver cover 15.40K ohms/AC
                        G-USA brass cover 17.10K ohms/AC

So you can see the G-USA cover isn't a huge difference in change. These could be useful if you design your pickup around them, they are 50mm pole spread which fits Guitar Jones bobbins but not StewMac especially if you use full size fillister screws and not metric screws, metric screws should be ok. The metal is thin enough that cramming the cover on with my screw heads bent the metal around the end screws, not good for me. Guitar USA is good to deal with, they ship quick as StewMac does, I wish he had more quality parts than he does now. Better covers, better bobbins, I love his service.

                          StewMac's aren't 50mm? What are they?
