  • weicowire.com and wire types?

Learned of this wire supplier on another forum http://www.weicowire.com/

They have a pretty big range of magnet wire (if they sell it by the pound not the ton)

    Has anyone dealt with them?

Also they have a bunch of insulation types
    - enamel
    - polyurethane
    - sloderable polyurethane
    - formvar
    - bondable polyurethane
    - bondable formvar
    - bondable polyurethane nylon
    - polyimide
    - glass fiber
    - solderable polyester
    - teflon
    - etc

which of these is "best" for pickup winding?

I've heard "formvar" mentioned here but the "solderable" types sound like they might be practical.

    thanks
    Nick

I posed this same question a while back...'whether anyone had had any dealings with Weico?' No response. I have their catalog and it looks like they have some good stuff. I will try them eventually.

I wind on a much smaller scale than most of the guys here so PE and SPN wire serve my needs...but Formvar is a favorite too. If you are just starting I'd probably start with SPN, but I should ask what kind of pickups to you intend to make...because that will factor into your decision.

at a quick glance, it looks like they only have 2 options for insulation builds. If that matters to anyone.

You mean "single" and "heavy" build? I think that's thickness - there's six insulation variations just for the 105C range and a bunch more as you go through higher temps.

Their site gives the impression they have an online cart system but all I can find is an email and a phone number

I got the cold shoulder from them when I wanted a small spool of 42 Formvar several months ago. I suppose as a hobbyist I didn't try to order enough!

I asked for a quote from them yesterday. The no longer carry PE and they wanted about $78 a pound for HF. Touch high dontcha think?
