Howdy GlennW, have you looked into those Tone-Cap switches, essentially a rotary-switch with surface-mounted cap chips...two vendors that I know of: some guy in Germany and a USA company (ads in Guitar Player magazine).

I've messed around a lot with caps and switches on basses, and like a rotary switch with no pots. The pots seem to make it sound less lively. On the Tele I tried a few different ones and think I'll use a .022 and a .033 on a 5-way switch from a Peavey. It'll probably be like
1) no cap
2) .033
3) .033
4) .055 (.033 + .022)
5) .022
I'm going to try it with and without a tone pot to see how it sounds. I figure the switch will be there so might as well use it for something. I've tried the S/P and phase stuff and don't find it useful on a Tele. It gets different sounds, but nothing I really want.
