Does any body know where I can get the cloth tape used for humbucker bobbins, preferably the one with vertical lines like that used by Dimarzio. A UK supplier would be preferable many thanks.

Difficult one Wobble. Uk bit of a joke and a ripoff for all. Your a bit stuck over here with Stewmac as I've tried all else and failed. Came up with black masking tape but you have to cut that down and Allparts does paper "not cloth." There is a good Tessa tape 4561 which is like a fine cloth weave gaffa but you will have to find a tape stockist who is prepared to cut off a long roll as the import is for a minium of 72 rolls of that and at £9 odd per roll well I backed out straight away. Spence, Cordy or Sam may come up with somat else. Good hunting. -
Silly me! got me mind ticking and just had a thought (that hurt) Dress makers tape known as Bias binding comes in different widths is available in black and any sewing shop should do it. Not sticky so you will have to do that yourself and it looks right if you get the right one. Also try a good auto store as a few european car manufacturers use a cloth tape very much the same for wrapping wiring looms. Somewhere to start anyway.Comment

While your there mate have a look at the binding that is put round the collar and cuff edges of school blazers(jackets) just dug my old(and I do mean old) one out and although it's gold its the same and there must be other colours.Comment

amazing what you can find when you walk in another direction. I use a Dacron tape for reinforcing the leading edges of the kites I make and that comes in all colours inc black as a self adhesive repair tape too. Fine weave, very strong and neat. Available from all good kite material places on line.Comment

Try 3M Look at ythe top right, it says United States. Click the Change link, you can get links for all over the world, maybe you can find a UK supplier there.
Medical or athletic tape? Gaffer's tape? I'm not sure what was used and it's been a while since I looked at it, but I think both medical and athletic tape may be too thick, at least for the "vintage" look...
So far two pages into a google search and nothing specifically in the UK, but you might try it, I'm on dialup and don't intend to spend half the day looking, sorry...but check a few of the big suppliers, they might have UK outlets.Why do I drive way out here to view the wildlife when all the animals live in town?

You are speaking of the Acetate cloth tape I presume?
It is 3M's # 11 Acetate Cloth Tape. Permecel and a few others tape companies make something comparable. Stewmac sells some as well. IMO 3M's is the Best.
For smaller quantities www.RShughs.com is a good source for the US...I don't know about the UK, but you might see if they ship there.Comment
