    Coool!!!!!!!

Yeah thats it, so it WAS a Gibson product. I broke the coil wire taking mine apart so I got to completely disassemble it and see everything inside. Fixed it luckily when I was done. Coil is lacquer potted. I can see why they went to plastic bobbins and seperate keeper later, these are production unfriendly pickups. It looks like the coil was wound as an air coil and placed over the core later because in mine there is a gap between the end of the core and coil. Haven't quite figured out the brass tabs thing.

      Possum,

could you please measure dc resitance and inductance?

I just won an E-bay auction for a P13 .. WOOT! Got one with the adjustable poles too. How cool. I'll share pictures when it arrived.

          ...

The DCR of those things are all over the place just like P90s.
I made a dead on reissue of the pole piece version, video is on YouTube. they use a solid steel core and an air coil that is slipped over the core using a unique piece of brass bent to hold the bobbins together. Two magnets like P90s. The other versions are way different, one of them is totally bizarre. Each of them uses different guages of PE, 44, 43, 42. I have four different versions and there may be one I missed.

P13's have a very narrow appreciative audience out there. They are very very dark pickups, some of the highest inductance and AC resistance readings of any pickup I've metered. Through the wrong amp they sound like total crap, like a mistake. They sound good in old cheap Harmony guitars and something like a Deluxe Reverb, through a tweed type amp cranked they totally mud out.

They are so expensive and time consuming to make that you have to price them for the time it takes to make, and basically I sell 3-4 sets a year, with good reviews, but there just are few who appreciate how to use them, most of those guys are jump blues players. I keep hoping some of the people who buy the Korean Harmony reissue guitars will have me build a true P13 repro into the fake pickups that come on those guitars, but none so far. The pickups on all those reissues are total phonies, so what else is new....

            p-13

I just bought a Silvertone model 1427 (I think) from the 50s. It is in super awesome shape, is black, and has the p-13 pickups in it with the adjustable polepeices. I have to admit, it is a little dark sounding, as in alot of bass, not mud. But- it is quite possibly the most awesome sounding guitar for my style of music that Ive ever heard! I play what could be dubbed "psychobilly" mixed with country mixed with metal mixed with blues. Man, add a little overdrive through a marshall tube amp with decent speakers and look out!!!!!!!!!!!Its gonna take you straight to hell! The thing I really love is that when you play a chord the notes are all separate and just sounds so awesome! I am a serious player/collector and have owned or played them all! And for the meager 550$ that I payed for this axe, Im stoked! The only problem is that I dont want to play this guitar live because it is in such awesome shape and I love the pickups. So im wondering if anybody out there knows if there are decent replica pickups to be found that I could drop into a cheaper guitar?

As far as I know, Dave(Possum) is the only one who makes one of these P13 pickups. You can check out his site at Home: SD Pickups, Custom-Made Hand-Wound Pickups by Dave Stephens, Stephens Design. Lollar and others of his experience could probably make one, but I have no idea if they have it as a regular product option like Possum does.

Sounds like my friend has the same model as Dhole. Anyway, the forum layout setting was threaded and not linear so I didn't see all the replies.

Hi, a friend has a Silvertone guitar with what he says are P13 pups. I have no reason to doubt him. If you don't get any useful info in the next week, send a PM and I will get some pics for you. I won't see him till next weekend and if I don't get a PM I'll forget.

                It's not microphonic - it's undocumented reverb.

I guess you didn't notice the original date on this post but it was from 2007. Possum has since found out what he needs to know about the P13 and makes one for sale. You can find out more about it by visiting his website. If you feel like sharing pics and info I'm sure people would love to see it, but I think Possum has it covered at this late date.

Which SD-pickup do you mean? the Pig 90? - the describtion doesn't quite match th P13 , neither does the Dirty Harry.
