      mmmmmmmmmm

I don't know, P90s aren't big sellers to begin with, add a blade on the side and it'll either sell or scare 'em away. Cool idea though...

Is that blade on a separate coil or is it just magnetically functioning?

That sh-15 has a different plate too. Looks like he may have used plated brass along with the A8 magnet . That brass will soak up some highs...Probably throughly thought through

Wow, That P90 thing look pretty odd to me but very curious to the sound of it considering that I normally don't like the sound of "Hum" size 90 style pickups. Pretty wild to see that Duncan is heading into the next realm of the future. No longer a purist in the old school look or design. Cool!

Wow, that's different. Talk about mismatched coils!

Yeah, Seymour is a thinker for sure. Just goes to show, even though he could just sit back and keep getting rich on what he has now, he is ever thinking, like a true Pickup winder does. Never stop searching for the ultimate pickup and tone. Good on ya Seymour

                  coil...

it looks like there is a coil on the blade, look at where the tape is wound, its not directly on the blade. question is, does it have equal number of turns to humbuck? Big question is what does it sound like. Lets buy one and take it apart

With the smaller average area per turn, it'd take many more turns on the blade to offset the hum from the P90 half, wouldn't it?

I'm going to get one to check out once they hit the market. If it sounds good i'm going to leave it alone. However, if it's average sounding, i might just have to play doctor...

I'm also looking at the bobbin and imagining all the work and money that went into designing/prototyping, testing, tooling, etc.... It must be nice to have that kind money for R & D and to launch a product like that.

What I find interesting about it is that it would have never been developed if there hadn't been the resurgence of interest in the P-90. They were all but ignored in favour of humbuckers and slender-profile SCs for the longest time in many circles, and started to make a comeback in the last decade. I guess at some point, folks were going to start thinking about ways to make them quieter or sex them up in some way. I gather this unit is intended to fit in an HB-sized cutout?

                          P Rail video on YooToob

                          Good catch, Dave.

I just found Duncan's press release on YouTube:

                          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZhJXcSVnfs&feature=user

Preceded by a bit of chat, the P Rail demo starts at 0:3:45s.

My, but that fellow likes his strings set low and clanky.

Agreeable quack tone using rails only, though.

Unless the induction was higher on the blade. Though with a thin blade like that I doubt it is.

But look at the Dimarzio Virtual Vintage stacks. The bottom coil is 2.45K while the top is 8.53K. The bottom coil is loaded with steel slugs.

I don't know if it's Youtube or the poor setup on that guitar but that clip sounded like it could've been any humbucker. I guess you gotta be there in person.
