I noticed that there are magnet wire made with other metals. Has any one tried any of these? stainless steel sounds interesting...

As pricey as copper is, it is still the cheapest high conductivity wire out there.
Everything else, except silver, is more resistive.
You can compare resistance of different lengths/volumes of metal
with this handy calculator:

It defaults to 1000 ft lengths of AWG 42 wire so you can
trivially compare copper, silver, gold, aluminum, etc.
All calculations happen on the client side which means
you can save a local copy on your machine.
