You've been here years befor the likes of me? Your Trolling here yrs because you don't know wtf your doing! Trying to Gather info. Now You Know Your Full Of Shit! You had to LOOK up Daves past posts? You've been here yrs? Yeah maybee, but Your surely not a sharp knife in the drawer.
Next time, topic your post "DID I get a good deal?", not "Tell me I got a good deal". Have some balls when you WANT to Ask a question, don't try to hide a Question! There are some smart guys here that can read between the lines "NEWBY"

Wow, have you seen anyone about your issues? that's some bazaar attitude.

Yes, I responded to your PM, which was just as arrogant (and stupid) as your post. Sorry to disturb your mental state, have a nice day.

...I got some 42H to wind.

          WIRE SCORE!!

There is scrap/surplus place near me that I pop into for sheets of copper shim and pieces of aluminum now and then. I went by on Saturday, and lo and behold they had in two huge bins of spoools of magnet wire of all sorts and gauges, from several companies, including Essex and what appeared to be a Danish company (Electro-something). They were selling it as scrap copper for the same price as all other copper they sell: $5.50/lb. I picked up a 1.5lb spool of #43 for a little over $8. No #42 as far as I could see, but loads of #40, 41, 44, 44, and even 46.

              "Yew lucky, lucky bastid..."

              You've hit the motherlode!

Just think of all the experimenting you can do with all those different kinds of wire... all those new kinda pickup styles you can swing.

I think Charlie Christians were wound with #37, weren't they? I'd grab anything from there to say #46.

It's pretty depressing how nasty this forum has already become.

Iwill just say though, anyone who saves money on coil wire has had a result. It's too damned expensive anyway.

Generally, the larger the spool the better the deal but also keep in mind that 5lbs of 42awg will be considerably cheaper than 5lbs of 44awg. etc....

That was probably Elecktrisola wire in the dumpster. Good stuff from New Hampshire. In Hi Voltage magnetics that wire has a reputation for outlasting all others. Some designers will have no other!

BTW- A good 'dereeler' for an 8# spool is a 1 gallon pail with a grommet or nylon bushing in the lid.
Remember....these ARE the good old days.

Geez... I feel gypped. All I ever find at my local scrapyard is aluminum chunks and parts of machinery...

Spence is right, the thinner the wire the more it costs. If you think wire is expensive now, wait a few years. This will be considered 'cheap' right now.

Actually, if that ever happened to me I'd empty my bank account, buy as much as I could, and smile. Got any 41 gauge to sell?

You are correct. I looked last night and that's what it is. The insulation is green for some reason. That'll make for some interesting-looking pickups!

I should probably try and pay a visit to the place again on the weekend, and see if there is anything else at the top of the bin that could be useful.

Sorry for the Nastyness. I expressed a genuine interest..... And I guess I didn't reply dramatically to taste. As always, cheaper than the vender= Good deal... IF you have a reasonable use.
