  • I would like to make Mini Humbuckers

    Hello!

This is my first post here, and I would like to say "thanks!" for the huge amount of info you have here!

I'm Alvaro from Chile, and I just starting winding pickups.

I have a Gretsch with mini humbuckers and I love the sound it has. I would like to make some minis for other guitars I have but is hard to find the parts for it.

I would like to get the pickup cover, because I could make the bobbins and I have the wire. I'll try to buy the magnets, but sadly is a little hard. In Magnetic Hold they just can send me 250 magnets or more, and of course I will not make 250 mini humbuckers

In Allstar Magnetics I had some problems with them because I told him that Stewmac sells cheaper than them (they said later that they had some stocked standar lengths and "Let’s compare the same things before criticizing the prices, okay?" so I didn't like how they work with they customers), so, I'm having problems to find a good dealer for this parts.

Some stores in the sticked post don't reply my e-mails, like the guitarjonesusa.com that is the only one that has mini humbucker parts.

Allparts.com don't ship to Chile and they directed me to the Argentinian distributor, that it seems is sleeping because they don't reply my emails.

I ask for some help on this, if you have any info that could help.

    Thank you very much!!

    Alvaro

    Hello Alvaro,
I had a few email with GJ and we chatted about the gibson style mini humbucker parts.
So I know he sells them but the basplates and the covers are brass wich sounds total crap.
I rewound some kentarmstrong in the past. They had nice nickelsilver covers but I had to replace the ceramic /ferrit magnets with alnico bars.
I used my regular paf style alnicos ,cut them and remagnetized it.
Sounded verry nice ,open and sinlecoil alike.
Hope there will someone come up with the right covers soon.
    good luck
    david
