  • Hematite Magnets...interesting

I was given a few of these to play with...I believe they are "manufactured" hematite.
Interesting stuff. Gauss starts out at about A5 equivilence (12-1400). When I attempted to reverse the polarity with 2 N35 bar magnets (my standard alnico magnetizer setup) it didn't work...the best I did was knock the gauss back to around 800. What was weirder, I couldn't get the gauss to go back up to original levels.
These are irregular block forms with rounded corners. The magnetic field was not oriented as I would have expected, the major polarities were focused on the corners. I *think* this may be primarily due to the soft radius of the corners.
*IF* these could be manufactured with normal sizes and polarities like the alnico's we use it *could* be very usefull...A very high coercivity/permeance magnet with A5/A3 gauss levels.

Ah well; for another day...I still haven't finalized the design/construction of my Neo polepieces. But it's still interesting...
