Does any one know who sells the humbucker bobbins that are filled in and smooth in the center by the pole / slugs and not all cut out / empty to save plastic?
    Needing 50 and 53mm versions
    awaiting answer from all.........amazing peoples

StewMac and Montreux - at least for 49.x and 50mm and I think 52mm (Montreux). Maybe AllParts, but I've never used their bobbins. Don't remember if my GuitarParts USA bobbins are solid or not. StewMac "cream" is fairly pink though.

the stew mac style is correct, except they wont match exactly with others 53mm coloring / finnish. Guitar USA are also hacked out to save plastic. So looking for one source. Cannot tell by the pictures on the montreux, but they are solid core so to speak?

When he opened up shop, I bought some of the 49.2mm bobbins and they're solid. He appears to carry 52mm as well - not sure about those. The covers are nice and square but they're all kind of pitted, noticeably so under the plating and most got scratched ding in shipment. I didn't complain - maybe just start up issues. The scratching could have been avoided with proper packing. The pitting might not matter to folks - just depends.

          Montreaux...

Are they the same bobbins as StewMac/Allparts?
Yeah I got some bare bucker covers and they arrived scratched up. I get 'em from Mojo now because they are protected by plastic sticky stuff.

I don't think they're StewMac bobbins, and I've never actually tried any AllParts ... parts. I called them once during the "great bucker bobbin shortage of '06", or whenever that was, and they said they were basically out even before the new stock arrived due to pre-orders. I think the Montreux bobbins are different manufacture altogether. Nice looking screws from Montreux, BTW, but I wish the heads were just a tad larger diameter.

I like the covers from Mojo as well. The bobbins appear to the be same as Guitar Jones (WSC?) - the covers I'm not as sure but the bare nickel that I got are nice enough for polishing. Razor sharp edges though. First time I polished a few I cut the heck out of both thumbs.

I just compared a set of StewMac bobbins with Montreux bobbins and they do appear to be cast from the same mold. The black screw bobbin shows the same sort of "flow lines" on top and the undersides look identical. However, the cream color is noticeably different. The StewMac bobbins I have are a couple/few years old - I think I bought them when they first started selling bucker parts. The cream has that pinkish look to it. Hard to imagine them saying "add a little pink to ours" if they come from the same source but they look the same. Maybe they've "fixed" that by now?

Andrew C. had some really nice parts, IMO. Wish he hadn't quite selling them. If nothing else, they were another option and the bobbins looked nice in a finished product. The covers were outstanding and the keeper bars were far and away the best available. I'm still working to get something close at a reasonable per part cost. The frames could be a bit sloppy. I think I was about the only guy buying parts from him though and he said it wasn't worth the effort in the end. He's branched out into pedals, etc., along with his pickup line.

I was buying parts from him as well. He had some good stuff and not so good in other parts.....his baseplates i didn't care for. I still have a shit load of his bobbins...I am deciding whether to sell them or put them into production because i'm using a different bobbin now.

Yea. Baseplates were spotty. I've got at least 50 of them still and about 50-70 pairs of bobbins. Emergency stash as far as the baseplates go. I'd have used more of the bobbins, but the heads on the screws I have are a bit too large to fit down into the holes. They have a nice "round" look to them though.

The covers were sweet, though a bit tight and the keepers outstanding.

                    ....

Can you measure what the coil height on the Montreaux bobbins are vs. StewMac that would tell if they are the same or not. Those flow lines are not the definitive way to tell, the '62 PAF I have has those exact same flow lines, pretty unusual to see that in butryate bobbins, not sure why, but they are there. I almost didn't buy the thing when I saw those....

My super duper high accuracy $17 eBay digital calipers say the inner dimension of the Montreux bobbins is 6.35mm (0.25") and the StewMac are the same.

My super duper digital calipers read the same on the Stew-Mac bobbins.

                          :-)

Your super duper Ebay thingy measured the wrong part. Measure the coil HEIGHT, from inside of the bottom flange to the top flange. StewMac's are average .257" tall. Thats what I need to know. Virtually all of them measure .25 on the center core...

I dunno. What I measured was from the top of the bottom flange to the bottom of the top flange. It's pretty much dead on 0.25" ... maybe 0.252" with the caliper really tight. Riser width is about 0.258-0.259". StewMacs appear to be identical. These look like they're from the same mold to me.

I got .251-.252 on the Stew-mac, but that could be from angling the caliper... either way pretty small difference.
