Hey there, I'm new here. I have this old archtop pickup that had an open coil and I'm trying to rebuild it. It had a fat coil that was made of fish paper glued to either side of a alnico magnet. It's made up of a pair of differant size/strength magnets taped together on either side of a brass separator measuring 1-7/8" x 1/2" total. It's housing is a steel stamping that rides on a chromed steel rod and the cover is chromed nickel. I've got some .015" and .010" Phenolic that I'm going to use for the bobbin. The wire was #44 enameled. I've got #42 Formvar. The original coil may have been 9-10K. Will #42 get me there, or will it be a waste to try with #42? I could wind the coil fatter than the original but not by much, there's not much room in the housing. Thanks

Well, I'm just being selective really Jonson. Don't want to be going over old ground and brawling all the time.
Been on a great holiday in Cornwall. Met some lovely ladies.....
Got a bit of a wool rash but hey, it was worth it.
Oh and when you get down to 44 AWG, the insulation is so thin it doesn't make a huge difference what type it is.sigpic Dyed in the wool

Spence, i read that you were going into a joint venture with a guitar luthier over on the MLP forum. any one we know? I actually recommended your pickups to John Elliot of Bravewood after getting hold of one of his guitars. is it him?
good to see you are still around hear,.... It gives the sheep some time off.

Still bleating on eh!
Looks like your up for a 3some and bringing the kid up the same way. Still prettier than the ones up here as the ground is flat and wet so the buggers wear snorkles.(now there's a thought)
Did you ever take any pics of the guts of that Harry job or dimensions as it would be an interesting one to have a pop at just for the sheer hell of it. Can't say I ever found a pat for that one.

Thanks for the recommendation too. I appreciate that though I'm not holding my breath.

Spit roasts will never be the same again !
Pictures, moi? No I'm still getting the hang of a propelling pencil so all I have is a sketch. It's a funny bugger inside because not only is there a chunk of brass between two magnets ( B pole position ) but there are some specially shaped inductance plates with nipples. Ooh, er missus !sigpic Dyed in the wool

Possum, no self respecting sheep sagger needs a team of Sheltis to round up their sheep. Shame on you !
