  • Plastic for humbuckers that won't melt in the pot

Got a customer who wants some 11-string halloween orange humbuckers. Anybody know of some material that won't melt in the pot?

Tackle the problem the other way, get low melting point paraffin.

Beeswax has too high melting point, 62-65C, paraffin goes from 46 to 61C, choose one between 50 and 55C, not higher.

    Keywords are:
    * use a thermometer, do not trust looks, touching it, etc.

    * it will congeal into a white solid mass when it touches cold bobbin and winding, temptation is to rise temperature too much, avoid that.

    * Warm it up in a double boiler (one pan into another filled with hot water, never ever direct flame) to 5C above melting but not higher, put bobbin inside, wax will congeal around it, no big deal, be patient and wait for it to remelt and go inside.

    So you "waste" 15-30 minutes?

    No big deal.
