Humbuckers using multiple smaller magnets rather than one large one

I ordered a bunch of parts from Mojotone. The bobbin says it uses 2 or 4 small magnets, 2 down the middle, one on each end, or both.

How are they oriented? I have read magnets will drain each other. How do I orient the poles on these magnets, if I put two in the middle or one on each end?

What sonic difference is there between 2 in the middle, one on each end, or four total?
