I have a bunch of half size magnets the manufacturer told me to put next to eachother side by side, south to north, between the poles or at either end of the pickup. What is the sonic difference between doing this as opposite to one magnet large enough to fill the entire space?

Ok, the cores (pole pieces, blades) of the 2 coils need to be magnetized by opposite magnet poles.
In fig.1 the magnet side facing the left blade is one pole face and the magnet side facing the the right blade is the opposite pole face.
In fig. 2 magnet poles from left to right should be either NS/NS or SN/SN, meaning that in the middle opposite poles are attached.
In fig. 3 magnets are oriented like with fig. 2.
In fig. 4 both magnets must have same poles on each side, so they need to be glued to overcome repelling.
To identify poles (pole faces) I use either my Gaussmeter, a magnet pole detector or a compass.
Also like poles repel and unlike poles attract.Last edited by Helmholtz; 05-08-2024, 10:07 PM.- Own Opinions Only -

Thank you for the response. In Fig 1, I place the north side of the magnet towards the north of where the coil will be on the guitar, towards the neck, south towards the bridge.
In Fig 2 you are suggesting the magnets should be stuck together, rather than repelling? They would be placed the same, but apart, in Fig 3.
Fig 4 north and north would be facing the neck, south and south facing the bridge.
For Fig 2, 3, and 4, What is the sonic difference between doing this as opposite to one magnet large enough to fill the entire space?

Fig. 3 might give a little less treble because of the wider magnetic field.- Own Opinions Only -
