I was just trying to break the tension (pun intended- IIR, tension is the topic of this thread).

I myself try not to state nonsense as facts, but sometimes I'm misinformed.
And remember, even a seemingly silly statement might contain a germ of truth.
An inert mechanical component could affect tone by transferring vibrations- creating microphonics and/or feedback.
A wooden bobbin could affect tone if it changed dimensionally with humidity.
(If it swelled enough to break the coil, that would *really* affect the tone.)
    And so on.
    In my opinion, of course!

Yep, the wooden spacer, I was gonna say something but couldn't bring myself to give it to Terry

I wasn't picking on Terry either, just calling BS on that post. Honestly I just get tired of this whole vintage crap. You see people worrying about silly stuff like wooden spacers and how many strands of wire are in the coax braid. It's just like the paper in oil caps. All this stuff hurts the industry as people start wanting all this junk thinking it's something special.

Gibson used wood because it was free scrap. They also weren't very fussy about the parts used or how they wound the pickups. They used off the shelf parts for the best price they could get. This is a historical fact. As long as they were close to spec and worked, that was considered fine. It's only now that people want to recreate what they perceive as a certain PAF or old Strat tone that all the minutia start looking important. But Gibson didn't pick these things for tone. They needed a spacer. Even Seth Lover and Tim Shaw have said how Gibson would not spend the money to make the pickup the way they wanted them. They didn't think it was important.

Terry, you seem like a good guy, but you really should think about some of that stuff. Don't make it more important than it is.

Me too! And Terry, my apologies if I offended you. It wasn't meant for that.

              I accept your apology.
No more arguing, badgering each other.
When one of us says enough, then we need to respect that and lay off.

BTW, on the post above I meant to put IMO.
I have already changed that post to add IMO.
