Well, I have been winding some pickups lately. I have been ruining a lot of my pickups lately. Recently I wound up some single-coils on plexiglass bobbins. they looked pretty cool for a moment there. It was for a guitar without pickup rings or a pickguard, so I was direct body mounting them. So, throw some foam. Put in the screws. Tighten the screws... And the plexiglass just shatters! Magnets jumping at each other! Totally couldn't believe it. It was smashed up. Poles all disoriented. I already had the strings tuned up by that point. There that pickup was, just sitting in there smashed. Dissapointing. I still played it. It howled and shreaked.
here she is:
You can kinda see how it wasn't going to handle it. In that pic it has Alnico rods, but they can be replaced by steel or even a bar magnet. Then different booster plates can be added and removed. You just can't use plexiglass I guess. Normally I use ebony, but I kinda just wanted to see the electrons wizzing around

What all has everyone been working on.
I haven't been doing that much pickup work, so haven't commented much.
I have been doing some hunting with my son and grandson.
I hope everyone is staying busy.Last edited by big_teee; 12-03-2012, 04:55 AM."If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favourable reference of the Devil in the House of Commons." Winston Churchill

I haven't been winding pickups much either over the last two weeks. I spent a few days traveling, first to Austin for Thanksgiving with my daughter and then to the coast for a few days to visit with my son and daughter in law and her family. I got to spend several days with my granddaughter almost a year old. That was fun. I was back in town only a few days, long enough to ship out a couple of orders that sold on my website while I was gone. Then I went off hunting as well for three days. Yesterday and today I have been cutting up venison and putting it in the freezer.www.sonnywalton.com

My Son Had to work today, we will hunt and run his Foxhounds Tues. and Weds.
We run them on a 35,000 Acre Management area.
At times it's hard to keep them in the boundaries, but lots of fun to hear them run.

These four are all machine wound with the same wire, same amount of turns, same TPL, same tension, and on the same machine. Just different traverse patterns. I'm working on replicating some coil shapes I've seen. Hoping they sound similar, too. lol!

Very nice work, Rewind.
Could you share any insite on aged covers?
Does anyone age the bare covers, or do you age the nickel plated covers?
I have a local guy asking questions.

Thanks, Terry. You can call me James. I need to get that into my signature like yours.
I age plated/polished covers when I do aged sets. More natural that way, I think. I do keep a supply of bare nickel and chrome covers on hand as customers ask for them now and then, but I don't even have them listed on my website at the moment. I do have some aged nickel/gold pickup photos in my site gallery (probably due for an update), if you want to have a look. http://www.re-wind.net/Photos.html

This is good, but I think this thread has gotten too big to follow easily. I get lost very quickly trying to find out what is going on here. I am starting a new thread on this daily rundown topic.www.sonnywalton.com
