Ok next question. For the sidewinder version which bobbin will accept the P90 magnets. My mojotone minihummer bobbins wont. Do you modify the fullsize hummer bobbins.

Another thought and maybe this is already done.
What if you placed bobbins on either side not rotated 90º so the coil direction is the same as a P90 connected in series and the bar magnets underneath as the rest of the P90 is.
So basically your splitting the P90 normal bobbin into 2 separate bobbins but still maintianing the string sensing area???

Heres a shot from Chris Novacks site so i guess its a usable design. Question is how would it sound?

Looks like your about to get back to the Mini Bucker.
You can mount a mini bucker in a P-90 Shell.
I just made the modified Mini with blades.
          It is a wonderful Pickup.
          Had great tone.

Yes I guess it is, the only diff would be that there would be a bar mag under each coil with same poles facing the centre pole screws.

Bill: I wonder if the screws in the pickup in your picture do anything?
Or If the blades are actually doing all the work?
Or maybe the blades are magnets?

                I'm not sure T.

I think I will try the Fralin rotated bobbin style. I have an email into Mojotone for what bobbins and bar mags will work but I also wonder if keeping the mags under the coils would also work instead of in the bobbin centre which brings the mags up higher.

I did some more searching and saw that their firebird A5 bar mags fit the minihummer bobbins.

Yes, they have them at AFX.
Alnico magnets Guitar pickups, Guitar magnets, Guitar baseplates
                    Mojo has them too.
                    Bar Magnets
My pickup I made used blades in place of the bar mags.
It used the humbucker mag on the bottom.
                    It had good warm tone.
The firebird with the A5s should be brighter.

                      So Big Terry

So thr hummrr mags that magnetized the screwpole pieces also attracted the blades too. Did you use mini bobbins.

                        Yes that is correct.
If you look at two pictures below.
the first show using the screws for a LP Deluxe mini.
The second picture shows subbing a longer bar to take the place of the screws.
The other blade in the bobbin is a shorter bar, and it sits on top of edge of bar magnet.
So the long blade is against the edge in place of the screws and the other sits on top.
I hand cut the bars, I left them a little tall.
This allows the cover to sit on top of the bars, eliminating loss or air, At least my thought.
It was a little microphonic under high gain, until I potted it with the cover on it.
I allowed all the hot wax to drain before cooling.

This is what I was shooting for. May need to make taller bobbins for more winds, not sure yet. I would use a top piece of plastic as a keeper and screw pole support.
Here is a P90 spec (from SKG)
                          P-90 42PE 10,000 CCW 8.0 A3 or A5
                          Mini Bucker 42P 4250 CCW 3.35 A5 x (2) = 8500 @ 6.7
So If I wantr to shoot for lets say 4500 per mini bobbin I think that's about all I can get on one.

I think I would prefer this layout.

This one is more in keeping with L.Fralins design.

So if the coils are electrically out of phase, will having the 2 bar mags that face each other same pole bring the coils back in phase?

                              Ok heres a crazy thought.

What if I wound 5000 winds CW then made a finished lead. Then wrap that coil with coil tape. Then Start a new coil wound around the first coil CCW with 5000 winds as well then connect.
Would this give me humbucking? Am I missing something?

Heck, give it a try, but don't be surprised if they cancel themselves out.
Especially if they are wound over the same polarity of magnet.
You may want to try the two P90 coils stacked with the magnet in the middle.
Anyone else got any thoughts on the best way to go on the P90 Stack, or humbucker?
