My Schatten clone build

There's not much to the Schatten winder... mainly it's a box that holds a shaft attached to the motor by pulleys.

Here's the inside. You can see the motor with a belt. The black disk on the axle is for the counter, which is light activated. The wires going to the top are for the motor speed control.

Hey David, how are the bobbins attached to that winder? do they need to be taped on or what?

Double stick tape. It comes with a piece of carpet tape.

I use the regular thin stuff from Stew-mac, and sometimes the foam stuff. The only time a bobbin falls off is if I used the same tape too long. And a lot of my bobbins have steel cores in them. It works quite well. I once had the top flatwork pull off removing it from the winder!

My new winder will have a tail stock, however, because it's based on a lathe.
