I have had my Der -EE for some time now and am happy with its performance
i have used it with banana pugs and test clips from the beginning and the only issue it had given is if you use longer leads it will not calibrate. i do suggest leads no longer than 6" for this reason

I've been reading around and found one thing to beware of:

If you install the 9-v battery backwards even once for an instant, you can destroy the instrument, at least on units bought a year ago.

See reply #11 in Der EE DE-5000 Unboxing and Teardown - Page 1

The problem may have been fixed by a board revision, or not. A good question for the seller to answer.

Anyway, a bit of care is in order.

            Thanks for the overview.

I have a Der EE DE-5000 (use with reg. banana plugs) as well as an Extech 380193 and find them consistently comparable. I've been meaning to do a thread on this for awhile, glad you did!

The short calibration should work so long as the total lead resistance does not exceed 1.1 ohms. Was there a bad connection?
