Greetings!
I have built a couple of LA 2's with good success. I love them and it seems it makes everything I record with them sound good. I had a question or 2 about a couple of ideas for simplicity.
First off regarding the the optical coupler. I have made them out of a electroluminescent night light and photo resistors with good success. I also know that in many cases the electroluminescent screen can go bad over time. So I was wondering if there were any other other alternatives that would give me the same effect only more stable. Knowing that these were invented in the late 50's could mean that something more modern can be used with the same effect. Considering that the light element is basically instant on ( I think) without much of an attack time, would be possible to use a LED getting the same effect?
Simply use a LED with a series resistor and presto?
Please let me know what you think or if anyone has tried anything like that. I could care less about vintage if a more practical means will work.
